Goals from Lewis Miller - his first for the club - and Dylan Vente gave Hibs a 2-0 win against St Johnstone on Saturday as Nick Montgomery not only tasted victory in his first home match in charge, but secured the club's first three points of the 2023/24 campaign on home turf.

There were improvements in the performance even since last week's 2-2 draw with Kilmarnock, while there was a first start for Jair Tavares since August 2022. Dylan Vente doubled his cinch Premiership goal tally with a second goal inside a week, and young Rory Whittaker made his senior debut at the age of 16 years and 44 days.

So there were plenty of talking points as Montgomery got his first victory as Hibs boss with an impressive attacking showing, a more solid defensive showing, and a priceless clean sheet. It will be interesting to see how the club can build on this display when St Mirren come calling on Viaplay Cup duty on Wednesday night, and again next weekend when Dundee are the visitors to Easter Road.

Hibs Observer editor Patrick McPartlin and writer Liam Bryce discuss the big talking points from the game.
