Prime Minister Andy Burnham has revealed his son is trying to turn him into a Hibernian fan after becoming engaged to someone from a Hibs-supporting family.

The lifelong Everton supporter admitted he is now "leaning Hibs a bit" as his son Jimmy began making regular trips to Easter Road. Burnham made the light-hearted admission while chatting to Scottish Labour staff during a visit to Glasgow on Friday.

He revealed his son had attended Hibs' recent clash with Celtic and is now attempting to convert his dad. Burnham said: "My son is marrying into a Hibs family, so he was up for Hibs-Celtic last week.

"Was it last week, was it? He was at Easter Road last week, so he's up and down a lot now. He's trying to get me on this. I'm more Celtic.

"He's got me leaning Hibs a bit."

Burnham has three children: Jimmy, Rosie and Anne-Marie. However, his son's new family connection appears to be giving Burnham a growing soft spot for Hibs, with regular trips to Easter Road now part of the family calendar.
