Hibs have completed a last-gasp loan deal for Sunderland's Eliezer Mayenda.

His arrival for the remainder of the campaign follows Harry McKirdy's return to Swindon Town on-loan. Nick Montgomery moved quickly on deadline day to facilitate a move for Mayenda, a second signing of the day from the Black Cats after Nectar Triantis pitched up at Easter Road in the afternoon.

The Hibs manager was keen to add another attacker following McKirdy's departure, and has been monitoring the 18-year-old Spaniard. He spoke to Mayenda personally earlier in the day and an arrangement for the rest of the season was thrased out.

“Eliezer is a player we’ve been monitoring and once the interest came in for Harry, we had a list of potential replacements on our recruitment list," Montgomery told the Hibs website. "With only a few hours remaining we spoke to Sunderland, and I had a phone call with the player and club. He had a few options on the table and after a discussion with his representatives, he decided he would like to join us until the end of the season.

“He’s a powerful, attacking player with lots of energy. who can play both central and wide.

“At 18, he’s already played Championship football and is highly regarded at Sunderland with a big future ahead of him. He will complete our recruitment for January and add more depth and attacking options to the squad.”

Mayenda's arrival takes the number of deadline arrivals at Hibs to three, as he follows Triantis and Bournemouth defender Owen Bevan in heading north.
